For the metaphor project i wanted to represent the feeling of taking out student loans and paying college tuition. Money seems to burn up and disappear. Stacks of it.
For my blind portrait, the person i got said they liked to express themselves through movement and dance..this inspired me to represent movement, music, etc with color and shape. This is also inspired by Munches artwork which to me shows movement and fluidness that i thought of when i read over my persons interests.
For my self directed project, i wanted to learn how to better create facial features. I watched some videos online to learn to draw realistic lips. What i noticed was the shading underneath the bottom lip really helped created a realistic look. also shading and the natural creases in the lips are key to create realistic lips.
My favorite project was the task party. I had some easy tasks, my favorite being the army of penguins i had to draw. It wasnt really a problem, unless drawing a bunch of penguins is a problem, but i solved it.
I had a hard time finding a limitation for my final project. I usually paint for all my projects so i wanted to change it up, but not painting would be going out of my comfort zone and it would require some other art skill im not confident in, like drawing. I decided to make my limitation my inability to draw. Even though i'm not really sure how well i can draw because i don't do it alot, drawing could be my limitation because it frustrates me quicker than painting and because i dont havea lott of practice doing it. I decided to draw an eye because it seemed like a challenging thing to draw. It turned out way better than i thought it would, considering it was my first time drawing in a while. I'm most proud of the eyebrow.
Is copying ok? Copying, or stealing, from other artists is a controversial topic, but a common practice. I think its ok to take some of the same ideas from other artists, and make changes to the original, or make similar pieces. You can copy or steal from an artist and still give credit to the original. Copying in art is ok, because its flattering to the artist and being inspired by other work and making it your own is part of art.
For my character remix i took a picture of Meridah from the Disney movie Brave and turned her into my sister, since they look alike.
My final project was a Van Gogh, which is unfinished. I decided to paint a self portrait of him as closely to his style as possible. I stole not only his painting, but also his face.
I developed my art making skills. I chose to do a still life for the Artists observe project. The medium was acrylic, which is what i have been painting with for a few years. Even though i have the most experience with acrylics, there is still a lot of techniques i had to learn for the project. For the candles, i had to learn a lot about painting light, and how to show the light from the candles correctly. This also helped me gain skills with the materials i am already familiar with. I had the idea for the candles because my group brainstormed and someone suggested candles. I thought it would be interesting but challenging to paint, because even though they are white candles, the light from the fire changes the color of them. The still life turned out how i wanted it too, and i really enjoyed the project!
The observational project was not my favorite. I decided to use a dollar bill as my object because people are more likely to notice and pick up money. I put it on the sidewalk in front of my house and sat inside waiting, ready to take notes on who ever picked it up. A few minutes after it was on the sidewalk it was picked up and taken by the three young girls that live next to me. It was a kind of boring project. I think if i used a different location it would have turned out differently, maybe more interesting to watch. But this project ended up not as interesting as i hoped.
